JA Connects with Even the Youngest Learners

Junior Achievement?s elementary grades programs help students in grades one through five understand and prepare for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it. This includes learning about personal finance, career options, job creation and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Students put these lessons into action in the classroom, but does the learning resonate and stay with them?[Farm land] <https://juniorachievementusa.files.wordpress.com/2014/08/farm-land.jpg> According to a story submitted by Jay Ediger, vice president of development for Junior Achievement of the Michigan Great Lakes <https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-mgl/> , even the youngest JA students are inspired to learn. A local volunteer had taught JA elementary grades programs, such as JA Our Community?, JA Our City? and JA Our Region?, to his daughter?s class. The students learned the importance of civic planning to the economic development and worked with the concepts of zones and resources management. Some months later on a vacation, the family was driving through miles of farmland. The young JA student thought it was imperative to explain to her family members that this was "an agricultural zone, not an industrial one." They really do listen.JA?s elementary grades programs can really make a lasting impression on young minds. When classroom volunteers combine key concepts from JA programs with their firsthand experience, their message empowers their students to own their economic success and make a real difference in the world. They learn how their community works and how they can contribute to it.
