Junior Achievement of Western New York teamed up with the Buffalo Sabres and the First Niagara Foundation for the second year on the Sabres Saves Campaign to empower young people to own their economic success. As part of their continued effort to support financial literacy throughout the community, the Sabres and First Niagara donated $10 to Junior Achievement for every save the team made throughout the month of February.

Through this campaign, the Buffalo Sabres showed fans that they dont have to be an NHL player to be a superhero. "The Buffalo Sabres believe in creating opportunities for the young people in our community to own their economic success. We are thrilled to be a part of this partnership with First Niagara and Junior Achievement," said Rich Jureller, Buffalo Sabres Director of Community Relations.

This great opportunity shows how inspiring community involvement can be. Laurie Mahoney, President of Junior Achievement of WNY stated, "Junior Achievement is appreciative of the partnership and support provided by the First Niagara Foundation and the Buffalo Sabres. Their generosity enables JA to empower the next generation to be financially capable, creative problem-solvers ready to take control of their future beyond high school. We believe that every child in our region should have the tools to confidently take control of their future."

To culminate the campaign, Jake McCabe #29 from the Buffalo Sabres - and the Sabres' mascot Sabretooth - visited a JA kindergarten classroom at Enterprise Charter School, which receives the kindergarten program presented by a First Niagara volunteer each year. McCabe read the students a story from the JA curriculum about earning money He & Sabretooth also mingled with the class and autographed Sabres-themed coloring sheets that the kids colored. McCabe also colored a sheet and had the students autograph his paper!
